Joy Melina Simpson, MA, LPC
Education and Training
I’ve been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado since 2006, specializing early in my career in Marriage and Family Counseling. I am a graduate of San Francisco State University where I received a B.A. in Psychology, magna cum laude, and University of San Francisco with an M.A. in Education/Counseling Psychology, with honors. I have 10 years of advanced experience in counseling Military Service Members and their dependents, as well as civilians, as the Lead Counselor at Fort Carson Army Post where I oversaw 17 counselors and kept a good working relationships with command. It was common for me to provide therapy for issues such as: PTSD, trauma, chronic pain, stress and anxiety, and depression to name just a few.
Empowering Patient Care
Through these experiences, I have come to especially enjoy helping patients gain control over their chronic pain and other challenges by empowering them with skills through client training in areas such as: Bio-feedback, Heart Math, Yoga, Relaxation, Visualization, Art Therapy, and Bodywork. My therapeutic approach includes the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Training, Systems (including family systems) Theory, Client Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) techniques which are matched to the needs and desires of clients. I am proud to be a supportive guide to my patients in the direction of health and wellness, and I am committed to Best Practices. I simply love what I do!
I am also the mother of an amazing elementary school girl who makes me a better person every day. I love cooking, painting, traveling, and spending time with my wonderful family and friends.
